UNIPOS Sorts Problem Afloat
'Chip-and-pin' is a major technological advance and has been welcomed by both consumers and retailers but it
represented a dilemma for Irish Ferries when it needed authorisation for credit cards on its ferries in the middle
of the Irish Sea.
The solution was provided by EPOS specialists Unipos Systems who installed 40 satellite-linked broadband credit card
terminals on the company’s four Irish Sea ferries – 'Ulysses', 'Jonathan Swift', 'Normandy' and 'Innis More'. The ferries'
previous system was not chip-enabled and needed to be upgraded so the new connection gives on-line access 24 hours a day.
